Few years back I was pondering over what's the most expensive gift that I have got in my life. It was just an impromptu thought with no intention behind, just like this a thought.
During my thought process I looked over so many things available with me in physical form, some still with me and few packed up in packets, steel boxes, home etc. I have so many gifts that I still carry but still I was confused to decide which is the one upon which I have build up something. That one thing which is still with me and has served me the most. After few hours of careful investigation still I was not able to figure out which is the one. So I left thinking upon this. Suddenly one day, I found my answer and I was so surprised that the quality of return that gift gave was incredible. Before declaring that what was the gift- here is story about my school days which explains what it is.
During the prep time in the evening, one of my friend said to me would you like to read this newly launched novel - it's very interesting. During those times I had a very strong notion of how the hell people read such fatty books with even not a single image, the whole book consists of just texts. Even after looking at such types of books I used to get very scared. But then he told me you would like this book and you must give it a try. So, I took the book just for scanning and started reading at around 7 PM, and the book was so interesting that it got over by around 4 AM in morning. That one book, gave me the first-hand experience of all fatty books are not boring. And the novel was so interesting that I formed the habit of reading novels. Within a year I read more than 100 novels, all of different kinds from fantastic to most boring ones. Within a year, I got bored with novels and switched over to different kinds and flavors of books.
So, have you got the answer? It's the habit of reading that I developed after reading that novel. This single habit has changed my life dramatically. Whatever I am TODAY, it's majority share goes to reading habit. The day I realized this that the books which are interesting, apart from course textbooks, arouses a habit of reading, increases your curiosity - what can be the best gift than this. From that day I changed my habit of giving gifts to whosoever I gave. I gave them BOOKS.
